The Political Action Committee (PAC) is a member-run, semi-autonomous committee of the union committed to extending solidarity to the rest of the labour and social justice community in Hamilton and beyond. Regular meetings are held to plan events and distribute the local’s donations budget. All members are welcome. PAC is a “participatory democracy” meaning decisions are made by consensus of standing members (a PAC committee member becomes a “standing member” at the third meeting they attend). Non-standing members are still part of the decision-making process. The Political Action Committee makes it a priority to work in solidarity with grassroots and local activist efforts over (but not to the exclusion of) major political parties or non-government organizations.
The Political Action Committee meets twice a month (regular times TBA, watch this website for upcoming meetings) and also maintains a broader Flying Squad: union activists less involved in the day-to-day affairs of the committee but who are interested in helping out with actions, events and solidarity demonstrations.
